OSCAR - The UK Information Service for World Mission

The IcFEM-Mission Gap/Volunteers Programme has been linked with OSCAR since 29th April 2008. The title 'UK Information Service for World Mission' is appropriate as OSCAR is seeking to provide a service that would further the mission of Jesus Christ throughout the world. OSCAR is a member organisation of the UK Evangelical Alliance and Global Connections. OSCAR is in agreement with the Basis of Faith of the UK Evangelical Alliance.

About OSCAR

OSCAR is the UK Information Service for World Mission, a Christian web-based service that provides information, advice and resources for those interested or involved in world mission found at www.oscar.org.uk an acronym of `One Stop Centre for Advice & Resources’ furthering the kingdom of God by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of mission work around the globe a charity registered in England & Wales (no. 1093265) a member of the UK Evangelical Alliance and Global Connections OSCAR grew out of the vision of Mike Frith, a former pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Mike’s 10 years of experience working overseas gave him an insight into many of the problems facing mission workers. With the advent of the Internet, he saw an opportunity to alleviate many of these problems by improving information and communication between all those involved in mission work. OSCAR was officially launched on the Internet in March 2000 as an independent service and has grown into what many regard as the place for world mission information and resources in the UK.

Who uses OSCAR

The OSCAR website has an average of more than 7000 unique users per month. More specifically, OSCAR is used by:

  • Missionaries and Christian workers around the world.
  • Prospective missionaries and Christian workers.
  • Missionaries and Christian workers entering or returning to the UK.
  • Christians open to the possibility of working cross-culturally.
  • Supporters of missionaries, Christian workers and world mission in general.
  • Anyone responsible for `resourcing' any of the above.

For each of these users, OSCAR is designed to take the ‘leg work’ out of finding missions related information. It helps them locate the organisations, services and resources they need and puts them in complete control of managing their own situation, whether they’re a cross-cultural worker, supporter or enquirer.
