First Aid Courses

The IcFEM Mission has realised there is a greet need for the general public to know at lease some basic first aid. So, we are now looking for volunteers that have some knowledge on basic first aid, whether you are a doctor, nurse, surgeon or even a St. John Ambulance Cadet. We would like you to train our Mission staff, teachers, parents, Church leaders, students, taxi drivers and police officers. If the community knew some basic first aid, it could save many lives especially in the rural parts of Kenya where there aren't any hospitals or clinics. If you visited a hospital in Western Kenya you would be very surprised on how many burns victims we have especially amongst the children. In Western Kenya the majority cook on open fires, and toddlers are attracted to the heat and bright light and they stumble into the fires whilst tying to walk. So if parents knew how to care for burns victims, it would be a blessing for these communities.

Helping Hospitals

Whether you are a doctor, nurse or medical student in one day you could learn a lot from being in a tropical hospital. The Mission had a medical student volunteer in mid 2007, we organised for her to have some experience in several hospitals in the Kimilili area. Each day she came back from hospital she would always have an amazing storey. She would always say she experienced more in that one day than she would do in 6 months or even 1 year. She saw many cases including malaria, labour (with difficulties), TB, road accidents, old age, alcoholics and malnutrition. If you desire to spend some time with our Mission Hospital or any other tropical hospital you will witness numerous of areas concerning medicine and gain further knowledge.
