Setting up and running of drama clubs in Kimilili Division is a good way of bringing fellow Christians together at very important times of the year, particularly to celebrate the life of Jesus at Christmas and Easter. Within the Evangelism Department we want to encourage churches to bring children together of all ages within the Sunday Schools and teach them the life of Jesus in a lively way that can bring joy to themselves and others and at the same time contribute to the spreading of the Holy Word within their community. Having drama clubs makes it possible for the children to learn, meet new friends, broaden their understanding of the Bible and grow in confidence. So our objective is to bring relevant Christian biblical drama within the church to help families come together, rejoice and develop the talents of their children.
You will be given the opportunity to organise and run a drama club within a Sunday School attached to one of the many churches in Kimilili. The Gap Programme Administrator will take you to the Sunday School which you'll be working with. You'll be given the task of organising costumes for the play, coming up with a way of fundraising for the costumes, and then you'll help with the making of the costumes with the children, perhaps using the Tailoring shop. You'll also come up with the theme of the play and write a script for each of the children. You'll choose who plays what part in the drama and give the children advice and encouragement. The administrator will give you the date which the drama will take place and you’ll need to make sure that date will be met. Whether one play or a series of scenes, the key thing is to involve as many of the children as possible.
