Practical Care for the Elderly

Within the IcFEM Mission we give practical care for the elderly which is along side practical care for the orphans and widows. There are many elderly people in Bungoma District and even Kimilili Division itself. So we have a great challenge at the Mission to supply the service to these people as there are many. If you want to work with the elderly during your gap period we encourage you to work amongst the Relief and Welfare team and help them with the task. Also, if your desired career includes caring or working with people especially the elderly, this gives you a great opportunity to have the competitive edge when applying for a certain job when you return back home.

Most of the elderly have poor nutrition, poor health care and need to carry on with the demanding physical labours which means that they are vulnerable of lack or poor food, clothing and bedding, poor health, loss of hearing and poor sight, arthritis, spiritual needs and loneliness and other social needs. And your aim is to help them to cope with these challenges, even if you only talked to them it gives them encouragement and the feeling of meaning. They would be grateful if you could help them with the shopping of the weekly necessities, clean the house, make a nice warm meal for them and help them spiritually over fellowship.

If you would want to help in this area we feel that it would help the Mission in meeting our Vision (A Mission of God with people and development) and the Mission (Accelerating Community Development) as well as helping the individual and the challenge which will be given to you will broaden your mind and give you a different outlook on life.
